Ohio University hazing death brought to court

Across the nation, there has been increase scrutiny of college hazing and initiations involving excessive drinking and abuse. The parents of an 18-year-old student who died at an Ohio University fraternity filed a wrongful death action against a fraternity earlier this month claiming that it was liable for his death in a hazing incident.

Ohio nursing home staff criminally charged

Nursing home residents are entitled to dignified and professional care. When this does not occur, nursing home neglect abuse can have devastating consequences. Criminal charges were recently filed against six Columbus nursing home employees and a contracted nurse practitioner after the neglected two patients who were under their care. One patient died.

Government focuses on impaired truck driving

The increased use of mood- or mind-altering drugs has also been seen on Ohio highways. The increased risk of car and truck accidents by impaired drivers has led the National transportation Safety Board to list ending alcohol and drug-impaired driving on its annual most wanted list of transportation safety improvements.

Excessive pain medication cited for at least 28 patient deaths

In tragic examples of major medical malpractice, the president and CEO of a Columbus, Ohio, hospital admitted that one of its physicians was responsible for lethal dosages of drugs that were administered to 28 patients. Several wrongful death lawsuits have been filed.
